The Broomhouse Centre’s new social enterprise Crescent Kitchen was last month opened by the Rt Hon Alistair Darling MP. As well as a refurbished café providing tasty and value for money food, the Crescent Kitchen will also deliver outside catering, team building days and training. Speaking about the Centre, Mr Darling said: |
| “The Broomhouse Centre offers vital services to local residents. Their work in developing the Crescent Kitchen means they are extending the reach of their work much more widely at the same time as delivering income to support their other work. This is admirable, and given the enthusiasm and professionalism that is brought to other areas of their work I have no doubt it will be a great success, and deservedly so.” | |
| The Broomhouse Centre provides personal, social and community development opportunities for disadvantaged groups in the Broomhouse area of Edinburgh. Speaking about the new enterprising initiative, Marie Anderson, Manager of The Broomhouse Centre, said: | |
“We are delighted to be opening the doors of the Crescent Kitchen, which has been developed after working with the local community to find out what they would like as well as considering the business needs of the organisation as a whole. The café, managed by The Broomhouse Centre, provides a much needed facility for members of the local community. But it has a much wider appeal. Anyone is welcome to eat here, and we offer everything from a cup of tea to a three course meal. It is also a core part of the work we deliver. For example, it provides meals for the members of our dementia care group, and is also a great facility for the young carers we support. Every one of the groups we run at the centre enjoys the great food, and the kitchen itself is used to train people so they can have a career in catering”. |
“More widely, the Crescent Kitchen is also providing outside catering, with a flexible approach designed to meet customers needs. We are also excited about the team building days we are now able to offer, and expect these to be popular with a wide variety of local companies. Our Board trialled the approach so can vouch for their fun and effectiveness.” |
