Community Enterprise is part of a consortia providing capacity building support under the Big Lottery’s Our Place programme, helping the community of Newmains in North Lanarkshire to articulate a vision for the community and to work towards funding applications. 

We are now at the stage of putting together stage one bids with the community and the following are the priorities that have been identified;

Bid 1 : Capacity Building Grant to establish the Newmains Development Trust. 

This would complement the support already provided under the Our Place contract and would bring in professional guidance, legal fees training and so on.

Bid 2 : Health and Well-being for Newmains.  

This bid would focus on improving the mental and physical health and well-being of the people of Newmains with a particular focus on children and young people.  It would promote physical activity, nutrition and positivity.  It would link closely to a community hub, but would not be dependent on it.  Elements of the bid would include;

o        Health Improvement Manager / Service Co-ordinatorDevelopment worker – to deliver programmes

o        Allotments

o        Play-park

o        skate park

Bid 3 : Newmains Community Hub

This would be the proposal to establish a community hub to host local organisations, be a point of contact between people and an information hub.  It would stimulate new work, host existing initiatives and encourage cross-fertilisation of ideas.  It will have meeting, training and office space and potentially space for a small community café.

Ideally it would be sited beside the other initiatives outlined above, but not necessary.
