Six Steps to Sustainability - Free Training for Community and Voluntary Groups

In partnership with the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, Community Enterprise is delivering a series of free training events throughout Autumn 2011 under the banner 'Six Steps to Sustainability'.
These events are free and open to all community and voluntary organisations in Scotland.  However, places are limited, and priority will be given to organisations working within Coalfield communities.

Three events will run in October and November 2011 as follows:

Friday 14th October 2011, 10am - 3pm  - Croy Community Centre:

  • 'Using your Asset' (10am - 12pm) - Are you making the best of your building, land or other asset?  This 2 hour session will look at case study examples of other community based organisations that have maximised use of their asset to make money, and further benefit their communities.
  • 'Event Management' (1pm - 3pm) - Learn to make the best use of your facilities with great events.  Avoid the common pit falls of poor event management and plan your event with confidence.

Monday 31st October, 10am - 3pm - The Pitstop, Loganlea One Stop Shop:

  • Funding (10am - 12pm) - Top tips on applying for funding, with seperate sessions on applying for small grants (less than 10K) and larger grants (£10K and above), along with tips on how to negotiate with the public sector.
  • Governance (1pm - 3pm) - A bite size session on why good governance is important for your organisation.  Learn who's who in the board room, the relationship between staff and the board, and key principles of good governance.

Tuesday 1st November, 10am - 3pm - The Pitstop, Loganlea One Stop Shop:

  • Marketing (10am - 12pm) -  Big Buzz on a Small Budget - Shona from Fresh Focus Marketing will share the secret to simply improving your reach to new and existing users, supporters and partners.
  • Impact Measurement (1pm - 3pm)  - Wade through the jungle of outputs, outcomes and indicators, and find out about creative, simple approaches you could use to measure the social impact of your organisation.

These sessions will be informal, and the training will be delivered in an easy to digest, bite size way.  You will also have the chance to quiz the Community Enterprise team with questions you might have on any of the above topics, and to network with other likeminded people.  The events are planned in a way that each of the topics will complement each other, and it is advised that you attend for the full day (lunch will be provided between the morning and afternoon sessions).  However, you can attend either the morning or the afternoon session only for any of the events if you wish.
